About Dr. Gamboa

Jacqueline Gamboa, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults.  She received her B.A. in Psychology from La Sierra University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego.  Dr. Gamboa has extensive experience working with infants, children, adolescents, and families in private practice and through her doctoral training at the following agencies:
  • San Diego Regional Center
  • Rady Children's Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry
  • St. Vincent de Paul Villages
She also provided psychotherapy and assessment services to college students at San Diego State University and the University of San Diego for over 10 years.  Dr. Gamboa's theoretical approach is primarily psychodynamic, but she has also received training in play therapy, family therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and attachment and affect regulation-based interventions.  

Dr. Gamboa's doctoral dissertation research focused on the relationship or attachment between mothers and their children with Williams Syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder.  The study highlighted some of the rewards and challenges associated with parenting a child with a developmental disability.  Dr. Gamboa presented her research at the 118th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association and the San Diego Psychological Association's 2009 Fall Conference.
